We will continue to undertake construction at night leading up to the Christmas trade and New Year celebrations.

This will ensure footpaths and parking bays remain entirely accessible during the day and early evening.

There will be no construction activity from Friday 20 December 2024 to Monday 6 January 2025, and no construction compounds will be on the street during this period.

Daytime works will start on Monday 6 January 2025.

This approach will ensure the construction footprint is minimised and normal street operations are retained during the Christmas and New Year trading period.

There is no anticipated disruption to businesses or street operations over this period.

Timeline of works

From Thursday 28 November 2024

The contractor, Outside Ideas, will set up a site compound at the back of the Telstra building on the corner of Brighton Road and Jetty Road to store all their construction equipment and material.

From Monday 2 December 2024

Dilapidation surveys will be conducted to determine the current infrastructure condition in the City zone to ensure the correct construction methods are applied.

Contractors will be required to enter each tenancy to assess the structure of the building to which the landlord has granted consent. The survey will not include photos of store inventory.

Footpaths and parking areas will remain accessible while they conduct these works.

From the evening of Monday 9 December 2024

To support Christmas trade, construction will continue at night. The contractors will demolish and replace the kerbs and gutters from Brighton Road to Rose Street.

While traffic management will be in place at night, there will be no obstructions to pedestrians or vehicle traffic during the day and all existing parking will remain accessible.

From Monday 6 January 2025

The project team will continue to visit businesses in December to refine the program of works as the construction footprint increases during the daytime from Monday 6 January 2025.

Stormwater works completed

Last week, stormwater relining work was completed in the City zone, which marks the end of the first phase of construction for the area.

We also completed site investigations, ensuring the next phase of construction can be rolled out as smoothly as possible while reducing the possibility of delays due to unknown services below ground.
