City zone designs released ahead of renewal works

9 October 2024

Designs showing how the City zone of Jetty Road will be renewed—part of the Transforming Jetty Road Glenelg project—have been released for community information. Construction will start next month.

The City zone spans from the Brighton Road end up to the Partridge / Gordon Street intersection and the plans show where more green spaces and plantings will be added and the colour palette selected for the new footpaths.

Also planned for the area are new continuous paved footpaths, enhanced pedestrian safety and accessibility, improved stormwater infrastructure, artistic lighting and new street furniture.

In an exciting development, visual artists Skunk Control have been engaged to develop concept designs for the entry statement that will be located at the Brighton Road entrance to Jetty Road.

The intention of the entry statement is to provide a welcoming and interesting landmark that creates a sense of arrival as you enter Jetty Road.

Skunk Control also created the nine colourful petals that were installed on the pergola in Bouchee Walk, which was part of stage one of the Jetty Road upgrade, which was completed in 2022.

As there will be no change to the function or layout of the City Zone section of the street, the design plans for the City zone have been released to the public for information.

In early 2025, the community will be invited to share their view on the concept plans for the Transitions and Coast zones, the other stages of the Transforming Jetty Road Glenelg project.

This will include consultation on any traffic changes contained within those designs.

The Coast and Transition zones include the remainder of Jetty Road from the Partridge/Gordon Street intersection through to Colley Terrace.
