Chapel Plaza and Hindmarsh Lane Upgrade to begin April 2021

9 November 2020

In April 2021, the first stage of a redevelopment of Jetty Road Glenelg will begin with a $3.6million upgrade of Chapel Street and Hindmarsh Lane.

The redevelopment will transform Chapel Street into a new public plaza with seating, lighting, public art and more trees that will create a new and welcoming open space for the community and visitors.

The upgrade of Hindmarsh Lane strengthens pedestrian connections within the precinct and includes new public toilets, a parent room and a Changing Places toilet for the profoundly disabled.

Construction will begin in April 2021 and will be completed by October 2021.

The project, originally planned for 2020, was postponed during COVID-19 following consultation with local businesses and will now take place over winter 2021 to avoid the busiest trading months.

Construction will have minimal impact for the majority of businesses and visitors, and vehicle and pedestrian access along Jetty Road is expected to be maintained throughout the project.

We are committed to working collaboratively with businesses, property owners, residents and other groups in the area to keep everyone informed and minimise the impact of the construction.

We look forward to delivering this project which will enhance Jetty Road and attract more people to visit, enjoy and stay at the Bay.
