Stage 1 works complete!

17 April 2025

The roads are back open after completion of the first stage of the Somerton Park Stormwater project.

Construction of this infrastructure helps to reduce the risk of flooding to around 80 properties in the Somerton Park area during a large storm event.

To achieve this important project, we have installed:

  • 300m of pipework in Whyte Street,
  • 250m of culverts and pipes in Tarlton Street
  • 14 Side entry pits (drains) along Tarlton Street
  • 12 stormwater junction boxes
  • 2 headwalls for the new and existing pipe outlets
  • 2 duckbill valves to help contain flows in smaller rain events
  • 1 Gross Pollutant Trap to improve water quality and remove larger pollutants from entering the ocean
  • Numerous service utility alterations for power, sewer, water and gas to properties

Some minor works will be completed after the easter break, and temporary cones are in place.

We thank all residents for their patience during this project.
