Project Overview
The Tarlton and Whyte Street, Somerton Park project was highlighted in the Stormwater Management Plan as a major outfall project to alleviate flooding issues in the Tarlton Street catchment.
The overall works will consist of installing a 1.2 metre diameter pipe and a Gross Pollutant Trap along Whyte Street with a headwall and rock protection at the new outlet. A large culvert will also be installed along Tarlton Street. Other work involved with the project includes the reinstatement of pavement and connections between the new pipe and the existing pipe at the Whyte Street and Tarlton Street junction. The drainage upgrades will lessen the flooding issues and provide capacity for significant storm events.
SA Water will be required to relocate its underground infrastructure in several locations prior to the stormwater works.
Twin gross pollutant traps will be installed on Harrow Road to collect pollutants in the pipes beforeentering the ocean. Council currently has eight Gross Pollutant Traps on our major pipelines.
