As part of the Glenelg Oval Masterplan stage 3 & 4 upgrades, in February 2023 Council sought the community's feedback on the proposed Margaret Messenger Reserve Fitness Station, adjacent open space grassed area use, and Glenelg Oval Playspace. We asked the community what fitness & play equipment was preferred and suggestions for the use of the open space grassed within Margaret Messenger Reserve.

Council engaged by holding drop-in sessions at the site, online surveys, and an online forum.

Findings from the online survey had 622 visitors and 33 submitted surveys indicated that option 2 for both the play equipment and fitness equipment was preferred. See the Council report link below for equipment type and layout, noting the equipment colours will be in line with the surrounds and Glenelg Club colours.

Other considerations included the below, all of which will be catered for;

Glenelg Oval Playspace

• Provision of shelter/seating
• Provision of more rubbish bins
• Provision of DDA/sensory play equipment

Margaret Messenger Reserve

• Provision of well-maintained irrigated turf for playing on, and cool environment
• Provision of upgrading 3:3 basketball court to include south shooting goal at full height
• Provision of mini-soccer goals
• Provision of more rubbish bins and dog bag dispensers

Next steps

Final Development Assessment approvals be granted for the Masterplan Detailed Design, construction of the N/E corner of the masterplan oval works (including playspace) will occur starting in October 2023, with the construction of the masterplan works to follow in Margaret Messenger Reserve (including fitness equipment) in April 2024.
