Environmentally friendly Permeable Pavers installed along Jimmy Melrose Pathway

29 October 2024

During the pathway excavation, we encountered significant tree roots around 17 large pine trees, as anticipated. As we prioritise tree heath, we carefully designed infrastructure around roots to avoid any cutting or damage. To ensure both long-term pathway durability and root protection, we installed Permeabilized Pavers around these trees. This solution allows water permeability, safeguards the roots, and maintains pathway integrity. The pavers provide a durable, long-term fix, preventing root lifting and potential kerb damage.

Benefits of Permeable Pavers:
  • Sustainability: Water permeability reduces stormwater runoff and enhances groundwater recharge.
  • Tree Health: Protects tree roots while maintaining pathway safety.
  • Aesthetics and Functionality: Offers a visually pleasing, durable surface.
  • Reduced Maintenance: Minimises root lifting and kerb damage, reducing long-term maintenance costs.
