An integrated pedestrian and outdoor dining experience
The draft concept design for the southern side of Moseley Square would transform it into an attractive, green and welcoming space for pedestrians to traverse through or for visitors to enjoy outdoor dining.
The southern side of Moseley Square extends from the footpath of Jetty Road and runs parallel to the tram tracks in a westerly direction. It covers the area between the tram tracks and the buildings adjacent to it.
The concrete wall and pedestrian maze on the southern side of Moseley Square would be removed. The outdoor dining space would be repositioned closer to the building line, with the footpath relocated along newly installed garden beds that create a safe separation from the tram lines, in compliance with public transport operator requirements.
Public seating would be installed, along with an arbour to create shade and to add greenery to the area.
With these changes we would:
- Create an improved and more integrated pedestrian and outdoor dining experience for both businesses and visitors on the southern side of Moseley Square
- Reduce cumbersome and segregating tram infrastructure for a more seamless connection to the space
- Transform the existing separated pedestrian and outdoor dining area into an environment that feels more integrated with Moseley Square.
